What has improved?
It should be noted that WVD’s product has seen the light of day thanks to its ability to solve the problems of loading profiles, especially those with large desktops or bulky Outlook caches. In part it has been by integrating the solutions of the company FSLogix (acquired by Microsoft) and its combination with Azure NetApp Files.
In this way, we can create FSLogix profile containers using Azure NetApp Files, an easy-to-use Azure native platform service that helps customers quickly and reliably provision enterprise-grade SMB volumes for their Windows Virtual Desktop environments.
Stores a complete user profile in a single container. Upon login, this container is dynamically attached to the computing environment using the natively supported virtual hard disk (VHD) and Hyper-V virtual hard disk (VHDX). The user profile is immediately available and appears in the system exactly as a native user profile.
Benefits
By migrating our on premin RDS/VDI environment to WVD we will achieve greater efficiency and resource flexibility.
Cost savings with windows 10 multi-session and 1 or 3 year host reservation.
Simplified management. A single service supports two user experiences: Desktop and RemoteAPP.
Better security thanks to different technologies such as Azure AD integration, Reserve connect, and Role-Based access control. In addition to the extended security support for Windows 7 desktops
What do we need?
We will need to prepare a Windows Virtual Desktop environment in Azure that meets the following requirements:
- An Azure subscription
- Installation of Windows Virtual Desktop cmdlets for Powershell.
- Virtual Network in Azure with access to the domain controller or Azure AD domain services configured as DNS.
- All Azure resources must be in the same region.
- Active Directory to which you can join your virtual machines.
And one of the following licenses that include access to WVD:
- Microsoft 365 E3/E5
- Microsoft 365 A3/A5/Student Use Benefits
- Microsoft 365 F1
- Microsoft 365 Business
- Windows 10 Enterprise E3/E5*
- Windows 10 Education A3/A5
- Windows 10 VDA per user
- RDS CAL with SA (For RDS environment)
*You can access Windows Virtual Desktop from non-Windows Pro systems if you have a Microsoft 365 E3/E5/F1, Microsoft 365 A3/A5 or Windows 10 VDA per user license.
And remember… the Enterprise and Enterprise Premium versions do not allow their execution in Remote Desktop environments, so they will not be supported by the platform.
